News from the Seminary - Ordinations and a Video

Even though I left Kenrick-Glennon Seminary last fall, I've been in touch with many of the seminarians, and I'm glad to be helping them with many different projects and events. A few weeks ago, one of the seminarians sent me a link to a neat new vocations video produced titled 'Man of Christ,' produced by various Cardinal Glennon College Seminarians. The video's quite nice, and besides a few pictures included in the video, I wasn't involved at all in the making, besides helping with a little advice here or there.

A lot of great things are happening at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary (including a new website), and I am extremely pleased to announce that the Archdiocese of Saint Louis now has an additional six transitional deacons! In just a few weeks, the next Ordination Mass—this time for priests—will be held at the Cathedral, and yours truly will be there snapping a few shots. For today's Mass, I didn't get much time to prepare, so I only have a small selection of pictures (not yet online). Here's one of my favorites:

It was shot with what is becoming my favorite lens of all-time: The Nikon 50mm f/1.4. I think the lens was stopped down to 2.2 in this shot, but heck, look at the beautiful sharpness in the range of focus, and thos nice, evenly-blurred highlights in the background. I have yet to realize this lens' full potential... so stay tuned for more shots with it.

For the priesthood ordinations (towards the end of May!), I'm going to go for the 1-2 KO, using my D90 with the venerable 70-200mm f/2.8 VR lens, and a D40 with a wide lens, switching to the 50mm 1.4 for some low-ISO closeups from time to time.
