In case you've been living under a rock for a while, here's the best explanation to date as to why the Church will be implementing a new translation of the Roman Missal (basically, the words spoken by the Priest and/or the laity during the Holy Mass):

So far I've seen very little that really hits hard from official lines of communication from the Church (a lot of info for liturgists, priests, and Catholic addicts, but not so much for the Catholic everyman). Maybe some Catholic parishes could distribute this video to their parishioners?

Lest I forget to mention it, flockNote's 'version 3' website has been launched as of Wednesday afternoon! I spent many (if not most) of my waking hours working on the website and hundreds of features contained within, and after a couple days up and running, the website's still going like a champ!

The site is built entirely on top of Drupal 7, and over the past three months, I've grown to appreciate Drupal many times more, as I've learned so much more about the deep and thorough APIs—bugs and all—that have developed into an extremely solid, reliable, and capable framework that is Drupal 7.x. Heck, I even dream about Drupal these days!

I don't know what it is about today, but my name was mentioned on three separate sites! I guess that's what I get for my infrequent blogging, dropping behind on LOLSaints postings, and general lack of updates around the web over the past few weeks (I'm plugging away like gangbusters on flockNote v3!)...

The Crescat

One of my favorite Catholic blogs, by a great margin - The Crescat mentioned an OSV article (which I had almost forgotten about—that's how much my mind is focused on work right now!), and was pretty inflated after reading that I 'religiously' follow her musings. Still haven't met the lady, but I have a friend and former co-worker who I imagine to be her nefarious (I kid!) twin sister from St. Louis. You know who you are!

I've heard about this book here and there the past few months, but it's getting all official now, with a spiffy website, a trailer (hey, I thought only movies had those!), and A-list endorsements.

From the endorsements:

Does it surprise anybody that the only woman interviewed in Fox 2 KTVI's video about the Hooters/Catholic Charities fundraising event objected to the event?

What, might I ask, do women think about the fact that the exploitation of the female body is the primary money-maker for Hooters?

Thomas Aquinas, on whether the ends justify the means:

On the contrary, Boethius says (De Differ. Topic. ii) that "if the end is good, the thing is good, and if the end be evil, the thing also is evil."

That is a simple way of stating it, but he elaborates:

Nothing hinders an action that is good in one of the way mentioned above, from lacking goodness in another way. And thus it may happen that an action which is good in its species or in its circumstances is ordained to an evil end, or vice versa. However, an action is not good simply, unless it is good in all those ways: since "evil results from any single defect, but good from the complete cause," as Dionysius says (Div. Nom. iv).

[Update: I just heard from a Catholic Charities employee that the CC president, Brian O'Malley, has cancelled the event. Great news! Hopefully this is the last time that crops up...].

I recently received an email from a friend (actually, I received a few emails, from a few different friends) advertising a fundraising dinner for St. Patrick Center (a Catholic Charities affiliated organization that does a lot of great things for the homeless and jobless in St. Louis).

The email advertises a dinner at Hooters, which will help raise funds for St. Patrick Center:

Dine & Donate - Hooters in Kiener Plaza will donate a percentage of food sales to St. Patrick Center from any guest participating in the LAST Dine & Donate event!

One of the final projects I was working on, but did not get to see grow into completion, while I was working with the Archdiocese of St. Louis was the Archdiocese's 2011 Eucharistic Congress. I actually did very little of the work involved in getting the website and video ready for the congress, but was privileged to work with some extraordinarily talented Catholics on both projects.

Catholic Tech Talk, a Catholic tech/web discussion website, recently posted what they believe to be the five best Catholic Diocesan websites, and I'm happy to report that our very own Archdiocese of St. Louis was ranked #2!
